Some families of 9/11 victims don’t want commie Mayor Zohran Mamdani to attend the annual memorial for the New York City victims of the devastating Islamic jihad attack. And they have very good reasons for their opinion.
The 2026 memorial for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks is of particular importance, because it will mark exactly 25 years. Naturally, some family members of those who died as a result of Islamic terrorism exactly a quarter century ago do not want an apologist for Islamic terrorism as a featured speaker at the memorial. Mamdani has defended jihadis, publicly joined prayers for killing infidels, appeared at events and mosques with pro-terror radicals, and fueled violent antisemitism. He represents the evil ideology that caused the al-Qaida 9/11 attacks.
Indeed, it is a tragic reflection that so soon after the 9/11 attacks, New York has a Muslim mayor who supports terrorism. Any Muslim who actually believes the tenets of his religion must affirm that the murder, enslavement, and rape of non-Muslims is praiseworthy. Mamdani’s election is partly the fault of New Yorkers who are very woke, but also it is due to the number of foreigners, particularly Muslims, who have flooded into the city over the years. New York City of 2026 is demographically and ideologically different from what it was in 2001. But that doesn’t mean victims’ families have to be reminded of this tragic change at the memorial.
Giovanni Galante, who lost his 29-year-old wife Grace Catherine Galante on 9/11, said, “Our objection is based on [Mamdani’s] public record — his failure to meaningfully acknowledge the horror of that day, and his employment of, support for, or association with individuals who have minimized 9/11, defended terrorists, or even suggested America ‘deserved’ the attacks.”

Galante’s petition garnered 1,100 signatures in a week, including at least 300 from the families of victims. As of Saturday, the petition had over 2,000 signatures. Galante called 9/11 “sacred” for bereaved families and declared Mamdani’s “presence would be deeply hurtful and inappropriate — like an unwelcome guest at a deeply personal ceremony.” The petition notes that Mamdani would not condemn chants such as “globalize the intifada,” but did affirm his father — who claimed the U.S. was morally equivalent to al-Qaida and defended suicide bombers — had shaped his views. The petition also accused him of more:
Mr. Mamdani has praised Brooklyn Imam Siraj Wahhaj, who has been linked to radical Islam, was named as an alleged co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing … Mr. Mamdani has endorsed candidates such as Aber Kawas, who described 9/11 as an attack “a couple of people did in the context of U.S. capitalism, racism, white supremacy, and Islamophobia,” and who also expressed sympathy for Ahmed Ferhani, who pleaded guilty to plotting to blow up a Manhattan synagogue.
A few days ago, Mamdani went on an unhinged rant about Israel after it became clear he couldn’t follow through on his threat to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Earlier this month, Mamdani raised a firestorm of controversy by excluding Italian, Irish, and Jewish neighborhoods from his immigrant and ethnic enclave map for the city — though the mayor did include “Little Palestine.” And you can watch Mamdani join in prayers for killing “infidels”:

Before Oct. 7, 2023, Mamdani demanded the financial boycott of Israel, and up through late 2025 was still fundraising for UNRWA, which employs dozens of terrorists. He also in late 2025 visited a mosque where the imam called the Oct. 7 atrocities a “silver lining.” And then there’s this scandal:

All of which is to say that Galante and his allies are perfectly right to want Mamdani banned from the 9/11 memorial.
