While the pumpkin spice weirdos are celebrating the fact that it's fall, political types like me know that it's really midterms speculation season. It's that magical time of any election year when we can get a lot of mileage out of finding new ways to say, "You know, anything can happen." The last couple of months before a big national election are boon times for political writers and pundits, no matter which side we're on.
One thing is certain, though: if the Democrats ever get too much power in Washington again, this country is toast.
Will that be the case, however, if the Democrats take control of Congress again, or do they need the White House as well? There are a lot of moving parts in that discussion and I try to cover the ones that are most important in this episode.
It may surprise a lot of people that I am not full of gloom and doom about the prospects for the Republicans or the United States of America should the Dems have success in November. I'm not naive either. It won't be ideal, but we won't have to pencil in the apocalypse just yet. Get that pencil ready, though.
I am working on a guest list to finish out the year. As I am not a fan of fall or winter, the busier I am, the better. The only thing I want to do with pumpkins is take them out into the desert and use them for target practice.
