People who have been reading my stuff for a long time are aware that I spend a lot of time in Michigan every year. My mom, sister, and a zillion or so aunts, uncles, and cousins of mine live there. Although I'm a Republican and therefore only legally able to vote here in Arizona, I do pay a lot of attention to Michigan politics.
Ever since COVID death witch Gretchen Whitmer was reelected as governor in 2022, things have been a bit bleak there for Republicans.
Tuesday's Democratic primary victory by the rabidly anti-American radical Abdul El-Sayed has some people wondering a couple of things. Michigan has been a purple state for a while, with Detroit and Ann Arbor providing the deepest blue hues, while the more rural areas are bright red. The question now is whether El-Sayed's victory is an indication that the state is about to jump the blue shark, or if the Hamas-loving loon will be an albatross for the Dems as they try to woo independents and moderate Democrats (I've heard rumors they exist) this year for the midterms.

I began regularly visiting in 2017, after my daughter went to Fordham University in New York. It was a convenient meeting place for us, and we got to spend time with the family there as well. Republican Rick Snyder was still the governor then, which offset the Dems' stranglehold on Michigan's U.S. Senate seats. That ended at the beginning of 2019, and it's been all Whitmer since then.
My mom and sister live in Ann Arbor, so I'm surrounded by commies whenever I'm there. It's tough to get a read on the rest of the state when all of the low-info "No Kings!" morons are clogging up the streets.
A lot of the Democrats' success in recent years has had to do with the fact that the Michigan GOP was a dysfunctional clown car. Whitmer never should have been reelected after her COVID tyranny, but the two best Republican candidates outsourced their signature collections and ended up being tossed off of the ballot.
Around that time, there were two people claiming to be the chairperson of the state GOP. That had to be resolved in court.
El-Sayed's win is not only a sign of the insurgency in the Democratic Party, but also of the growing political power of the state's significant Muslim population. As Kevin has pointed out to me several times, the Michigan Muslims are a loyal voting bloc. It's getting stronger too.
My mom was born and raised in Dearborn. She moved to Arizona in her late teens and stayed here most of her adult life. When she moved to Ann Arbor several decades later, Dearborn was predominantly Muslim.
For most of my life, Hamtramck, Mich., was known as a community of Polish immigrants and Polish-Americans (which I am). Hamtramck became the first city in the United States to have an all-Muslim mayor and city council. Yes, they vote Democrat, but the wokesters are having some buyer's remorse about that, which we discuss on the podcast.
In my opinion, this demographic shift is the one that will determine whether Michigan dives off of the far left cliff or not.
Muslims won't be taking over Ann Arbor, largely because they don't need to. And the city's secular commies don't like any talk of God, no matter who's doing the talking.
