Who Will Fill in for Karoline Leavitt? (Hint: It Could Be a Few VIPs)

Exciting news: There's going to be a new baby in the Donald Trump administration any moment now.

While speaking to the press today, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, "On a personal matter, this will likely be my gaggle for some time — as you can see, I'm about ready to have a baby any minute."

She also joked that "all of you have the president's phone number personally, so I have no doubt that you'll have no shortage of statements and news from this building while I'm gone."

Leavitt also told the press that they'd be in very good hands with her team, which left many people wondering who exactly would be filling in for her while she's on maternity leave.

Well, if Politico is to be believed, there won't be any one person doing the White House press briefings for the foreseeable future, but we could see some major VIPs at the podium, including Vice President JD Vance, various members of the Cabinet, and maybe the president himself at times.

If true, I would totally watch that, popcorn in hand. The VP alone knows how to school some idiot reporters, and it's always good TV.

"In the meantime, the White House press shop will be managed by White House comms director Steven Cheung and Leavitt’s team: Pat Adams, Anna Kelly, Kush Desai, Abigail Jackson, Liz Huston, Taylor Rogers, Davis Ingle, Allison Schuster, Olivia Wales, Micah Stopperich, Ellie Acra, Georgia O’Neil and Kieghan Nangle," Politico reports.

While all of that is nice, come on, I think we all know who is really going to be filling in for Leavitt while she's gone. I mean, I'm sure he can find some spare time in his schedule. Ha.

In case you missed it, Leavitt and her husband, real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, announced around Christmas that they were expecting a baby girl in May of this year. The couple already has a son, Niko, who they welcomed in July 2024.

It's not clear how long Leavitt will be on maternity leave, but I have a feeling she won't be gone too long. She's already a natural at multitasking motherhood with her job and has praised the family-friendliness of working in the Trump administration.

And don't forget, Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, are also expecting their own little bundle of joy, a baby boy. They already have two sons and a daughter, Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. It's the first time a sitting vice president's wife will give birth during her husband's tenure.
