The hijabed “feminist” Linda Sarsour has faded from the public eye since the glory days when she was one of the far left’s most visible and annoying mouthpieces, but in these heady days of the mayoralty of Zohran Mamdani, the communist Twelver Shi’ite who is currently occupying Gracie Mansion, she is enjoying a renaissance of sorts. She doesn't enjoy the media adulation she once did, at least not at the moment, but her influence may be even greater than it ever was before, and she is just as sinister as she always was, if not more so.
Not long before Mamdani was elected, Sarsour, who was working (mostly behind the scenes) on his campaign, asserted that most of the money for the Boy Marxist’s campaign was coming from the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other, similarly sinister groups.
Now, Sarsour has been discovered to have advocated that one of America’s founding documents be replaced, saying that her comrades have to have the “audacity” to make this change. The video of Sarsour’s incendiary remarks actually dates from February, but after the antisemitism watchdog Canary Mission posted it on X on Friday, it has gotten over a million views, and for good reason. Sarsour calls for the replacement not of the Constitution, which you might expect, since it contains the instructions for the establishment of the Electoral College and much else she doubtless hates, but of a document that is much less often the focus of the left’s ire: the Declaration of Independence. Sarsour says:
This is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. This is quote-unquote America's birthday. And the question historically is gonna be, what were we doing on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence? Do we have the audacity to sit around and say that we want to build a document that is our values and our principles, and bring millions of Americans around it?
And I see people on the streets. I see mutual aid efforts. I see young people running for office. I see people of color marginalized, people getting up and saying, I'm the leader that I've been waiting for and seeing people rally around those leaders.
And so, don't give up hope, folks. There's more to come. We're gonna survive this. And some of us are going to be on the fight back. And some of us are going to be on the other side waiting to catch you when we win, because there gotta be other people that are going to be building the thing that you're going to come to once we win this fight back, because we will win, my friend. So keep your chin up, your head up. It is the blessed month of Ramadan right now, so I've had a lot of time to reflect on this.
The Declaration of Independence doesn’t reflect the values and principles of Sarsour’s comrades? Is it that bit about how all men are created equal? No, aside from the allegedly sexist generic noun, leftists would claim that they’re more concerned with equality than patriots are.
Sarsour likely hates, however, the idea that the Creator endows those people He created with certain unalienable rights. In both Marxism and traditional Islam, human beings have no unalienable rights whatsoever. In the Marxist scheme, the government has absolute power, including that of life and death, over every individual. In Islam also, Allah does not endow the individual human being with any rights at all; only as part of the ummah, the global Islamic community, does anyone’s life have any importance. That’s one key reason why Islam lends itself so easily to authoritarianism, and why there has never been a free republic in a majority-Muslim state in 1,400 years of Islam, with the partial (and rapidly receding) exception of Kemalist Turkey.

Sarsour also must hate the part about how governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. Sarsour is no deep thinker, but as a deeply committed leftist and Sharia-adherent Muslim, she has two good reasons to hate that idea. In Marxist societies, the consent of the governed is of no importance whatsoever, and in Sharia states, all governing power comes from Allah, so the consent of the governed doesn’t matter there, either. Sarsour has insisted that “shariah law is reasonable and once u read into the details it makes a lot of sense.”
Sure it does. And once we get rid of that pesky Declaration of Independence, that will be much easier for everyone to see. Patriots, meanwhile, must do all we can to ensure that our fellow Americans never summon up the “audacity” for which Sarsour longs.
