For Democrats, fighting crime isn’t about enforcing the law; it’s about blaming the root causes and systemic inequities. The problem was that along the way, Democrats emptied jails, vilified cops, and made "defund the police" a rallying cry. Anyone who suggested simply enforcing the law got dismissed as a simpleton. Meanwhile, Democrat cities became hotbeds for crime, shrugging it off as if to say, “Well, what can you do?’
Well, Trump showed them.
According to FBI data, violent crime fell 9.3% in 2025, the largest one-year drop ever recorded. Murder plunged 18.1%, which ties the lowest murder rate in the nation's recorded history. Robbery dropped 18.5%, so nearly 38,500 fewer people were robbed. Rape declined 7.6%, meaning more than 10,000 fewer victims, and aggravated assaults fell 7.2%, sparing Americans from more than 62,700 attacks. Property crime fell 12.4%, the second-largest decline on record, with nearly 750,000 fewer offenses.
None of that happened by accident.
Violent crime arrests shot up 90% to nearly 54,000, including more than 31,000 violent criminals and gang members, a 30% increase. The FBI captured nine of its Ten Most Wanted fugitives, more than twice as many as it caught during Joe Biden's entire four-year term, and it also nabbed four of its Most Wanted Fraudsters. Agents arrested more than 5,000 child predators and human traffickers, up 13%, and found and identified more than 11,000 child victims, up 21%. Add record disruptions across criminal, cyber, counterterrorism, and counterintelligence operations, including hundreds of cybercriminal enterprises, espionage rings, and terrorist networks taken down, and you get a law enforcement apparatus that finally remembers what its job is.
Then what came about? The formula isn’t complicated. The president supported the police rather than apologizing for them. The FBI stopped wasting time investigating parents who spoke up at school board meetings or trying to find a crime to pin on Trump, and focused on actual criminals. And that Democrat experiment in consequence-free crime that left communities across the country reeling came to an end.

Even Bill Maher gets it. The leftist comedian, who has never been mistaken for a MAGA loyalist, gave Trump partial credit for the crime decline Friday during a discussion on Real Time with Bill Maher about why crime has dropped nationwide.
"It's just childish to pretend that when you elect a ‘f*** around and find out' president, a 'no more Mr. Nice Guy-booting-your-ass-V-for-vendetta-kick-a**-and-take-names-say-hello-to-my-little-friend' president, that's not going to have some effect on crime," Maher said as his studio audience laughed.
Of course, Maher couldn't give Trump all the credit. A longtime critic of the surveillance state, he also found a way to cite it as a factor.
"It's not just drug crime that's way down – it's all crime," he continued. "And again, probably much of it is not political. It's because you can't move two inches in America without being tracked, photographed, and followed by a flock camera."

Of course, that’s been a thing for years, so that doesn’t really account for the massive drop in crime under Trump. The one variable that actually changed was the man in the Oval Office and the message he sent.
Criminals respond to consequences, and when a president makes clear that breaking the law will cost you, fewer people break it. It really is that simple.
