The Media Is Trying to Get Hegseth Fired. It Won't Work.

It's no secret that Democrats have set their sights on Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, hoping a single stumble finally gets him fired. Remember during his confirmation hearings when they suggested that his Jerusalem Cross tattoo was disqualifying? They couldn’t stop his confirmation, but they’ve never stopped trying to get him booted from the administration anyway. He’d be their top prize if they can get him out. The weakness of their latest effort is obvious, and it tells you their crusade is doomed to fail.

The media are manufacturing outrage over something silly and calling it a scandal. Hegseth said something at a fundraiser in Iowa, and the reaction from Democrats and the media has been swift, furious, and almost comically predictable. Senators are demanding his resignation. Several outlets accused Hegseth of using a "transphobic slur" to describe transgender people while touting the Pentagon's anti-DEI policies. Hegseth made the remarks Monday, August 17, while speaking at the "Operation Top Nunn: Salute to the Troops" military fundraiser at the Iowa State Fair, held in support of Rep. Zach Nunn's (R-Iowa) reelection campaign.

What did Hegseth say? Well, during his remarks, Hegseth touted the anti-DEI policies he's implemented. "At the Department of War, we do training, not trannies," Hegseth said. "It is a day and night difference."

Yep. That’s it. That’s what all the hubbub is about.

He didn't stop there. "Training, lethality, accountability, discipline, readiness — the bedrock of what it means to be an American warrior — is the only focus of our department," Hegseth said. "Colorblind, gender-neutral, merit-based. That's it. We want the best! And anybody with half a brain knows that's common sense! I guess common sense isn't all that common in Washington."

I guess “trannies” is a slur now. Who knew? Right?

Anyway, a few outlets jumped on it, and a bunch of Democrats pretended to be outraged. "Pete Hegseth's comments are abhorrent and an insult to LGBTQ+ service members and veterans," Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) wrote on X Thursday, August 20. "Transgender service members have and continue to serve our country with honor and dignity. Pete Hegseth must resign."

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) piled on in a separate post, writing, "Pete Hegseth should be fired immediately." Hegseth hasn't publicly addressed any of it, probably because he knows a phony controversy when he sees one. Responding would only give it oxygen it doesn't deserve.

You’ve probably noticed that Democrats and the media treat every administration departure like a trophy. The recent exits of Karoline Leavitt, Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem, and Tulsi Gabbard have turned the left into sharks that smell blood in the water, and now they think they can shame Hegseth out the door, too.

For sure, Hegseth would be a genuine prize for the left. They're just not going to get him, and their attempts to scandalize a guy for saying "trannies" are pretty lame. This is the tattoo controversy all over again, a manufactured non-story. That tells you everything you need to know about the strength of their case against Pete Hegseth.

They got nothing.
