Something is seriously wrong when President Donald Trump has to fight his own party all the time. And yet it seems that’s a perpetual story. Is anyone else sick of this? I know I am. Especially when Democrats are always united in their opposition to President Donald Trump. The latest absurdity is that Trump is fighting with Republicans just to get his handpicked attorney general confirmed.
The president wants Todd Blanche running the Justice Department, and yet, a small band of Senate Republicans keeps standing in the way. Trump is obviously furious about it, and who could blame him? What exactly are they holding out for? Let’s not forget that 20 Republicans voted to confirm Merrick Garland as Joe Biden’s attorney general. Twenty.
Trump unloaded on Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) Friday morning over acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's stalled nomination, a day after threatening to yank it from the Senate entirely.
This might be a good time to mention that Cornyn voted to confirm Merrick Garland.
At issue is the nearly $2 billion anti-weaponization fund, money set aside for Americans whose lives were destroyed by the Biden administration’s weaponization of the Justice Department. Cornyn and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) want it killed, and according to Trump, Cornyn's objections only showed up after Trump endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton against him in a brutal Senate primary that Cornyn lost badly.
"John Cornyn never had a problem with the so-called 'Fund,' which will not benefit me, but rather the great American Patriots who were hunted down like dogs and whose lives were unfairly and illegally destroyed by the Crooked Joe Biden Administration, until after I decided to Endorse and Support his Republican Primary opponent in Texas, who easily won the Nomination for the United States Senate," Trump said on Truth Social.
Cornyn and Tillis are pushing the Department of Justice and the administration for explicit, written proposals to permanently kill the anti-weaponization fund and rewrite Trump's audit immunity, both stemming from his settlement deal with the IRS that Blanche rolled out earlier this year. Both insist the real obstacle isn't Blanche at all.
"I thought we were pretty close to landing the plane last night, but this morning there's been some more complications," Cornyn told reporters Thursday. "I think if this were just between me and Todd Blanche, we would have worked this out. But apparently he's getting some pushback from higher-ups at the White House. I don't know who, but this doesn't need to be this hard."

Trump isn't backing down on the fund. He says the victims deserve to be made whole, and he's not wrong.
"I will always feel that these victims of government abuse should be paid back for what they were forced to endure; their lives have been ruined," Trump said. "Millions of people agree with me, as was proven in my landslide Presidential win, where this was a major subject of debate, and so did John Cornyn, until he lost his Election to an opponent that I Endorsed. Todd Blanche, a good man, should be immediately approved as U.S. Attorney General."
Trump does have a fallback plan: wait for Cornyn and Tillis to be gone from the Senate next year. This is obviously a gamble. Sure, Republicans will likely hold the Senate, but nothing guarantees the chamber gets friendlier to Blanche after the midterms in November. And Cornyn and Tillis aren't even the only holdouts. Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and John Curtis (R-Utah) are both sitting on the fence too.
Democrats have spent a decade proving they'll fight Trump on absolutely everything, no matter how small. They don't need any help from inside the Republican caucus, and yet here it is anyway. Every senator slow-walking Blanche's confirmation is handing Democrats and the legacy media a gift: proof that Trump can't even count on his own party.
