Something deeply troubling has been unfolding across the United States over the past two weeks. Jihadist violence has struck bars, college campuses, protest crowds, and synagogues. Despite the obvious threats facing our nation, nearly every Senate Democrat voted to keep the Department of Homeland Security closed.
How many people have to get hurt or killed before Democrats realize that resisting Donald Trump for the sake of resisting Trump is not only stupid but deadly?
Think about it. In the span of roughly two weeks, four separate Islamist terror attacks have struck our nation. On March 1, Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old naturalized citizen from Senegal, pulled up outside Buford's Backyard Beer Garden in Austin, Texas, and opened fire from his SUV with a handgun before exiting and continuing with a rifle. He killed 2 people and wounded 14 more, and he did it wearing an Iranian flag T-shirt under a "Property of Allah" hoodie.
The following weekend, 18-year-old Emir Balat and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi hurled homemade IEDs into a crowd of anti-Islam protesters in New York City. They told authorities that ISIS had inspired them. Luckily, the device failed to detonate because it could have been a lot worse.

Then came Thursday. Mohamed Bailor Jalloh walked into a classroom at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., asked if anyone in the room was in the Army, and when they said yes, shouted "Allahu Akbar" and opened fire. He killed Lt. Col. Brandon Shah — a decorated helicopter pilot who had served over Iraq, Afghanistan, and Eastern Europe and had returned to ODU in 2022 to lead the ROTC program. Two cadets were wounded. The ROTC students subdued Jalloh with their bare hands and killed him.
Minutes after Jalloh's attack, another ISIS-inspired strike happened. Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a 41-year-old Lebanese naturalized citizen from Dearborn, Mich., rammed his vehicle into Temple Israel Synagogue and school in West Bloomfield, then got out and opened fire with a rifle. Armed security confronted and killed him; his car caught fire. One security guard was injured, but no students or staff were on campus. Luckily, the school was empty at that moment because that may be the only reason we didn’t experience a mass murder of children.
Despite these incidents, Democrats in the Senate refuse to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
Democrats are so worried about offending their far-left base that they are literally blocking the funding of the Department of Homeland Security to make a statement about immigration enforcement. Now, let’s not forget, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is already funded for the next few years, so their tantrum isn’t accomplishing anything except preventing the Department of Homeland Security from having the resources it needs to do its job.
And the people who want to harm our country know this. How much longer are Democrats going to grandstand? How many more people have to die before they realize their political theatre is deadly?
Do they even care?
The evidence so far suggests that they don't.
