Black Illinois residents have insanely high rates of death by firearms compared to the national average or even to other demographics in their own state.
The Post Millennial analyzed data from the Hirsch Law Group that involved firearm statistics for both suicide and homicide for the year 2024. Illinois’s overall firearm death rate was actually just slightly below the national average, but for all that Democrats there love to rant about racism, it turns out that their policies are covering up a serious racial divide.
It was found that the firearm death rate for white Illinois residents was 8.6 per 100,000 in 2024. For black residents of the state, that number jumped to 37.9 per 100,000, a 30-point gap over white residents…Across the United States, black Americans had the highest firearm death rate at 25.2 per 100,000 residents. This was followed by American Indian/Alaska Native at 14.5, and white at 12.2.
Yet, Illinois has much stricter gun laws than many other states, and Chicago has particularly strict gun control laws. It turns out that simply trampling Second Amendment rights doesn’t stop violence or crime. It means that only the bad guys are armed.

Crime Prevention Research Center reported that between 1998 and 2024, 51% of mass murderers had been seeing mental health professionals, and that almost 83% of mass shootings occurred in gun-free zones. If you look at statistics between 1950 and 2024, 92% of mass shootings occurred in gun-free zones. Violent crime rates more than doubled in America after the Gun Control Act of 1968. No sweeping federal gun control legislation has ever managed to bring down crime significantly, and sometimes violent crime increases dramatically, according to a Legal Reader analysis.
As HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has mentioned multiple times, for centuries of American history, guns were everywhere in America, and yet there was no phenomenon of mass shootings. There were murders, duels, occasional assassinations, and in Democrat-controlled areas they were lynchings, but there was no constant trend of mass shootings. Clearly, the availability of guns is obviously not, in and of itself, a factor in shooting up schools. Something else changed in our culture and national morals.
Actually, there were a number of things. From Lyndon Johnson onwards, politicians incentivized single parenthood financially, and the Communists who started infiltrating our education system and entertainment industry in the early 20th century also encouraged a rejection of biblical morality. Thus, we have an explosion of single motherhood and broken families. As of 2024, the CDC reported that almost 40% of all American births were to unwed mothers. That alone is problematic enough, but among black mothers, almost 70% of them were unmarried. Boys who live in fatherless homes are more likely to engage in gun crime. Worldmetrics reports:
…80% of juveniles in detention centers come from father-absent homes. Fatherless boys are also 4x more likely to be arrested for violent crimes by age 18. The statistics link missing paternal involvement to higher rates of conduct disorder, depression, anxiety, self-harm, and poverty, along with weaker education outcomes for boys and girls.
Besides encouraging sexual immorality and unwed parenthood, leftists also encourage all kinds of irrational hatreds based on identity and skin color, including racial prejudice, sex based-prejudice, and class-based prejudice. To top it off, they fuel outright mental illness, like gender dysphoria, and convince people suffering from it that everyone who doesn’t affirm their mental illness is out to get them. This is why there has been an explosion in LGBTQ-identifying mass shooters in recent years. Western Journal even argued in mid-2025 that approximately 40% of attempted or successful school shooters between 2020 and then had been either transgender-identifying or suspected of transgenderism.
Reading the works of Booker T. Washington is inspiring because he overcame so much after slavery and built up such an amazing educational system. It's also sad because by the start of the 1900s, he and other former slaves and their kids had made so much progress in improving their minds, families, and lives — progress now lost. Democrats deliberately destroyed all that progress after the Great Depression because they never got over losing their slaves, and they wanted a political plantation if they couldn’t have a literal one. Americans of all backgrounds were desperate for government help, but so many black Americans lived in poverty enforced by racist laws that they were even more vulnerable to the welfare state.
In A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, which is supposed to take place across about two decades starting 1900, Betty Smith describes the extremely well-ordered Tammany Hall Democrat machine that managed to strong-arm, coax, and bribe huge swaths of Brooklyn dwellers into voting Democrat, even giving them a scheduled time to show up and vote. Democrats have an even bigger machine now, which is how they were able to flip Texas.
The point is that Republicans have been excessively bad at reaching out to certain demographics in America, and unless we start learning our lesson and developing outreach as successful as the Democrats have, there will continue to be excessive crime in American cities, black Americans will continue to vote Democrat, and Republicans will continue to lose elections and freedoms to the leftists. The gun crime statistics are one symptom of a much bigger societal problem.
