Canadian Woman Wants Euthanasia Offers to Stop. But Care Has Become an Elitist Convenience.

In socialist medical systems, not only is the quality of healthcare inferior and are wait times for surgeries and other procedures usually long, but the government inevitably begins to decide whom it thinks is worthy of living and whom it wants to die. Canada’s state-sponsored euthanasia system is the eugenics of the Nazi era reborn, a way of eliminating elderly, vulnerable, or depressed people whom the elites don’t value.

Just as leftists began by saying Western nations needed abortion in rare circumstances and ended by celebrating toddler killers, so socialists begin by talking about allocating care to those who most need it and end by urging almost anyone who is ill or discouraged to off himself.

For instance, earlier this year, a Vancouver priest who went in for treatment for a hip fracture received two different offers of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), Canada’s euthanasia program. While MAiD is not currently available to children and teenagers, Canadian politicians periodically debate allowing depressed young people to opt for euthanasia. An Ontario case caused a particular stir because a grandmother received a referral for MAiD the same day she mentioned an interest in it, said she wanted to withdraw her request, and ended up being euthanized against her wishes because her husband was tired of caring for her.

Now there’s a new report via Euthanasia Prevention Coalition’s Alex Schadenberg, who posted a blog on September 1 discussing the case of an elderly Canadian woman whose niece contacted the coalition. It seems the aunt was asking if there was any way to prevent the MAiD team from offering her euthanasia again. She was tired of the pressure to kill herself.

The woman told me that her Aunt was asked, if she wanted euthanasia twice, in a pretty persuasive manner, and she said NO.

The woman told me that her Aunt was very upset because the person in the bed next to her was sold euthanasia at the bedside. Her Aunt told her that the MAiD team sold euthanasia as a beautiful death and made the person in the bed next to her, who was not asking for euthanasia, fear that she would otherwise have a terrible death.

Unfortunately, when the government controls the healthcare system, the government gets to decide how many times it will pressure people to kill themselves. Forbes reported this year that MAiD now accounts for one in 20 deaths in Canada. The euthanasia program has nothing to do with compassionate end-of-life care. It is a way for the government to off people it sees as expensive and useless burdens on the system.

This, of course, is also a result of Western nations moving away from a Judeo-Christian mindset. Secular countries, especially socialist countries like Canada, do not believe that each human is a precious individual uniquely created by God with certain inherent rights. The woke elites see most people as just cattle or peasants, whom they will dispose of when they decide it is expedient.

MAiD is just state-sponsored murder by another name. Who knows how many of the people who die through the program would never have chosen it had they not received as much pressure as the elderly aunt’s hospital neighbor did?
