Hilton Speaks to Hispanic Voters, but Becerra Doesn't Show Up

The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Convention invited two gubernatorial candidates to speak to Latino voters. Republican candidate Steve Hilton showed up ready to address affordability and other key issues. Democrat Xavier Becerra, who trafficked hundreds of thousands of illegal alien children and helped wreck the economy, didn’t even bother to show up.

Instead of hearing both candidates for California governor present competing views and answer questions, convention attendees heard only Hilton, because the oligarch Becerra disdained the peons too much to put in an appearance.

Hilton, who has years of experience in business, including as a small business owner, presented his plan for boosting the economy in California in a way that particularly appeals to entrepreneurial Latinos. The interviewer asked him, “Latinos are starting businesses at a faster rate than many other segments of the economy. What would you propose to make it easier and more affordable to start and run a small business?”

“I love this question,” Hilton enthusiastically replied. “First of all, it's outrageous to me that the first thing you have to do if you want to start a business in California is pay the government $800, just that ridiculous small business registration fee. That is going to be abolished when I'm governor. Secondly, we are going to make sure that the level you have to comply with all these regulations is lifted way high. You've got so many regulations that are just not appropriate for a small business that just create paperwork and hassle. We're gonna lift that level very much higher. Thirdly, if you [have] a restaurant, a business like that, you're gonna get… Private Attorney General Act… these extortion shakedown lawsuits filed by trial lawyers, and so I put a plan to end PAGA lawsuits by appointing a labor commissioner.” He received a round of applause.

Becerra, as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, was a top official of the Biden administration, which absolutely destroyed the economy, explaining why Donald Trump achieved a record number of Hispanic voters for modern Republicans in 2024. Small businesses in particular suffered under Biden. Part of that was the millions of illegal aliens whom Becerra and Biden welcome into the United States and provide with so much housing and taxpayer-funded benefits.

In one California facility, Becerra was spending $7,000 per migrant child per night for the most bare-bones living conditions. He described trafficking over 300,000 children into the United States as an “assembly line” and ranted about how slowly it was going, encouraging as little vetting as possible for sponsors.

As of March 2026, a McLauglin & Associates poll found that 58.7% of Hispanic voters supported deporting illegal aliens and 54.7% of them supported deporting visa overstayers. UnidosUS found this year that economic issues were still the number one concern for 60% of Hispanic voters. Whichever way you look at it, Becerra’s track record is the exact opposite of what Hispanic voters want. Let’s hope Hispanic voters in California remember that when they head to the polls.

Becerra must be assuming that the California fraud machine will guarantee him victory, so he thinks that he doesn’t have to make a pitch to voters.
