August 6 is the anniversary of America dropping the atom bomb on Hiroshima in 1945, an event that triggered a series of events leading to the surrender of one of the 20th century’s most deadly regimes—imperial Japan. We could learn a lesson about our own current conflict with the equally bloodthirsty terrorist regime of Iran.
Projections were that a million or more Americans were going to die in the land invasion of Japan. On every island the Americans had managed to take after bloody fighting, indeed, the Japanese had provided graphic and bone-chilling evidence of their fanatical dedication to fighting to the last man, woman, and child. Mothers would even throw their children off cliffs rather than allow them to be captured by Americans. The Japanese war council considered surrender an unthinkable option, and in fact many of the members continued to think so even after two atom bombs, necessitating the emperor’s intervention for surrender. The whole worldview of Japanese culture was opposed to surrender.
When I was in Thailand and visited the Thai-Burma Railway Museum, which exposes the horrific atrocities of Japanese forces in multiple Asian nations, I saw a documentary about how the Japanese empire brainwashed its people into believing extermination was preferable to surrender. Seventy-five years after the tentative plans for the invasion of Japan, the U.S. military was still using Purple Hearts manufactured in anticipation of it, because all the wars since have not equaled the casualties it would have caused.
Imperial Japan had a much higher victim death toll (up to 10 million) than the current terrorist regime of Iran, but the ayatollahs are genocidal and would kill 10 million or more Jews and Christians and freedom lovers if they could. When the ayatollahs scream “death to America and Israel,” they mean it. They massacred up to 52,000 of their own people in January and continue to execute political prisoners.

The reality that many modern people do not want to face is that the atom bombs absolutely saved lives, not only hundreds of thousands of American lives but up to millions of Japanese lives. But if that’s true, why can't we save lives by destroying the Iranian regime? We don’t need atom bombs. Donald Trump has said many times that he can destroy the Iranian regime without a hint of atomic warfare, so why not do it? Especially since Israel’s military is ready and willing to help us.
The ayatollahs run the worst terror-sponsoring regime in the world, with sleeper cells and assassins in America and a jihad proxy reach from Gaza to Iraq to Pakistan to the U.S. The WWII generation destroyed the genocidal regimes of its era. Our generation needs to follow that example.
