Chinese Communists' Anger Over DOJ's Harvard Investigation Speaks Volumes

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is extremely angry about the U.S. Department of Justice investigating its funding and discriminatory initiatives at Harvard University. And that should tell you everything you need to know about why the funding and projects need to go.

China is second only to Qatar in giving grants to American universities, and both of those governments donate vast amounts of money for the express purpose of brainwashing Americans into supporting terrorism and socialism. The CCP also sends many Chinese students whom it vets to steal Americans’ slots at our universities — and sometimes steal our intellectual property at the same time. The CCP freely admits that it is determined to usurp America’s place on the world stage, and it informed its people back in 2019 that it was entering a war phase with the United States. Infiltrating our institutions of higher learning is part of that asymmetrical warfare. That is why Chinese officials are upset about the DOJ investigating Harvard.

The CCP state propaganda outlet Global Times, which makes a habit of issuing threats against the United States, published a July 21 piece expressing outrage over the DOJ investigation. Framing the DOJ investigation into Harvard’s ties to our number one enemy as “politicizing education,” Global Times complained that it “could create a chilling effect on bilateral academic cooperation and undermine confidence in bilateral exchanges.”

The CCP state media indignantly asserted:

[Research fellow] Sun [Chenghao] noted that in the short term, such investigations will undoubtedly raise compliance costs for US universities engaging with China, deepen concerns among Chinese students and scholars, and erode confidence in normal educational exchanges. With Washington's probes into China-related research, visa policies and foreign funding on the rise, this policy climate risks creating a chilling effect, exposing even routine academic collaboration to greater political risk.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington told media that China-US education cooperation is mutually beneficial. China maintains that normal education and academic exchange should not be disrupted for political purposes. … An open, non-discriminatory and mutually beneficial international education environment benefits not only China and the US, but also global innovation and talent development, Sun said.

And yet, oddly enough, Chinese universities are not welcoming large numbers of American students. This so-called mutually beneficial exchange is very one-sided. It always involves Chinese infiltration of American universities, not the other way around.

As of last year, almost two-thirds of Americans under the age of 30 had a positive view of socialism (which is of course only the watered-down version of communism), according to the results from a Cato/YouGov survey. That same survey found that 34%, or about a third, of young Americans had a rosy view of communism. Per Axios, U.S. college students in 2025 overwhelmingly preferred socialism to capitalism, with 67% having a positive view of socialism and only 40% having a positive view of capitalism. That is a very genuine threat to the United States of America. These young people will be voting in elections for decades. They will be determining the future economic, political, and cultural course of our nation.

None of this ideological transformation happened organically. These views are the result of decades of Marxist educators lying to young Americans about capitalism and socialism. Many American high school and college students hear from their professors that China is a glorious utopia and that America is the most evil country in the world. I just wrote about the book Communism for Kids. Part of this concerted takeover of the American education system into a Marxist brainwashing system is due to Chinese funding. That is why the DOJ is so concerned about Harvard.
