The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) never misses an opportunity to undermine the interests and security of its number one enemy, the United States of America. With Cuba collapsing internally, but still trying to defy the U.S., the CCP swooped in to back Cuba in its usual imperial style. And since the CCP already has a military and Intel presence in Cuba, this is not mere pontificating.
The CCP loves to come in and play the compassionate and noble opponent to alleged American imperialism, and therefore has, in fact, actually acted as a very successful colonialist power, extending influence to many African, Asian, and South American countries. Commie Cuba is among what I will term the CCP’s satellite states. And that really is a threat to the United States.
My colleague Sarah Anderson has been writing regular updates on the economic and political crisis in Cuba and how the Trump administration has floated the proposal for the U.S. to retake Cuba. Her latest update explains why the Cuban regime is such a national security threat to the United States, including its possession of Iranian or Russian drones, paramilitary groups, and an alliance with treacherous U.S. Democrats. Furthermore, the CCP does have spy bases in Cuba, which is a convenient launching point for operations targeting the United States. All of that is good context to keep in mind as you read the Chinese propaganda about America’s latest Cuba sanctions.

CCP state media outlet Global Times loves to threaten other nations, but especially Taiwan and America. On July 15, the propaganda outlet published the following:
The US has imposed a comprehensive blockade and illegal sanctions on Cuba for more than 60 years, inflicting grave suffering on the Cuban people. Recently, the US has escalated its measures, dealing a severe blow to Cuba's basic livelihood and triggering close attention from the international community, Chinese FM spokesperson Lin Jian said in response to the US' new sanctions that run counter to consensus of international community.
The US side should heed the just call of the international community, immediately lift its blockade, coercion and pressure against Cuba, and stop violating the Cuban people's right to subsistence and right to development. China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding national sovereignty and opposing foreign interference. We stand ready to work with the international community to uphold international fairness and justice, Lin said.
What remains unclear is exactly what the CCP means by being ready to work with the international community on Cuba. I mentioned at the beginning of this article the Chinese bases in Cuba, a strategic foothold which Beijing will be very loath to lose. There’s a new report about a Cuba-linked activist network that claims to be able to mobilize protesters across the U.S. within 24 hours if America does take military action against Cuba, as rumor suggests, but the reality is that the Chinese military could also potentially be involved in fighting the United States.
A May Congressional report exposed China’s military presence in and operations from Cuba. We cannot reject the possibility that if the conflict between America and Cuba comes to open warfare, the CCP will be actively involved in the fighting.
