Belgium Gives Terrorist Who Killed 130 Jail Leave; UK Lets Off Migrant Assaulter

European authorities continue to push their countries toward suicide.

Mohamed Bakkali was the leader of the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of 130 people and the injury of hundreds more. Bakkali and his fellow jihadis not only murdered but also mutilated and castrated multiple victims, according to Townhall. He also had a role in a separate 2015 attempted terror attack on a high-speed train (see “The 15:17 to Paris”), according to Europe Says. Yet the Brussels Tribunal d’Application des Peines (TAP) approved half a dozen penitentiary leaves of up to 36 hours each for Bakkali.

Authorities asserted Bakkali had acted “calmly and respectfully,” so after only 10 years in prison, they began granting him day leave and later allowed him to apply for prison leave. When Bakkali specifically met with some of his victims, the Belgian authorities, instead of viewing this as a danger to the victims, declared that he must have acted out of deep repentance and a desire to make amends, according to Europe Says

N-VA Member of Parliament Sophie De Wit pointed out the risk: “Cases of this calibre are not about the standard enforcement of sentences, but about a very concrete assessment of the risk to society. When the public prosecutor’s office itself issues a negative recommendation, serious alarm bells should certainly be ringing…At the same time, the figures show that this is not merely a theoretical debate: in 2025, 434 prisoners failed to return from prison leave on time.” In other words, the public prosecutor’s office believes Bakkali cannot be trusted, but the woke court is too interested in their idealistic, utopian view of rehabilitating terrorists to acknowledge it.

Thomas Sowell, in his book Intellectuals and Society, examined how the intelligentsia — primarily academics and journalists, but also some politicians, educators, and others who subscribe to a particular type of utopian thinking — damage our societies and our world by their most poisonous ideas. Such people, Sowell argued, view themselves as “the anointed.” Because of this, it does not bother them if their ideas are proved wrong repeatedly, if their philosophy does not conform to reality, or if the majority of average citizens can debunk their high flights of fancy with the most basic common sense. I immediately thought of Sowell’s critique in the case of the Belgian court and Bakkali.

Here is a terrorist who is a mass murderer, a demonic and brutal torturer and killer, and yet just because the court thinks he behaved politely they are willing to let him go on prison leave. This has nothing to do with Bakkali’s record, or with statistics such as De Wit provided, or with whether there’s any evidence that mass murdering Islamic terrorists can reform and become trustworthy. This has everything to do with the woke authorities’ utopian view, completely theoretical and divorced from reality, and they are confident that their decision must be right, simply because they are the anointed.

Speaking of arrogant authorities who continue to reward violent and vicious criminals just because of their ethnicity, while aggressively persecuting others just because of their political opinions, we turn to the UK. A Pakistani assaulter secured the discharge of his case merely because the jury failed to reach a verdict.

In fact, as of 2024, while there were 9,700 free speech-related arrests across 39 of 45 UK police jurisdictions, only 6% victim-based crimes in Britain resulted in a charge. Brits who criticize mass migration on X are more likely to end up in handcuffs than either domestic or foreign criminals who commit assault, sexual offenses, theft, or arson. “The anointed” across the West are deliberately destroying their own nations.
