Fairfax County in Virginia was a safe haven for illegal alien criminals, even before current Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger came into office, as Fairfax Democrats are blindly devoted to the cause of sanctuary policies and completely indifferent to the suffering of their own citizens. And Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano (D) is a huge part of the problem.
The U.S. Justice Department's (DOJ) Civil Rights Division is investigating Descano regarding his plea bargaining, charging decisions, and sentencing policy, which the DOJ argues were rigged in favor of illegal alien criminals specifically. The DOJ made the announcement in a May 6 press release.
DOJ Civil Rights Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon explained, “Under my leadership, the Civil Rights Division will not allow local prosecutors to pick and choose winners based on their immigration status. This investigation will uncover whether this prosecutor is putting the community at risk in offering sweetheart deals to illegal immigrants charged with serious crimes.” And I'd like to provide four examples to illustrate just why I'm celebrating this investigation -- and why you should, too.
WJLA ABC7 News reporter Nick Minock has been regularly covering Descano's outrageous decisions, including one he highlighted yesterday (May 5) regarding illegal alien rapist Alberto Ruiz Mendoza, who ought, from the nature of the charge against him, to have been facing life in prison, according to Minock. Instead, Descano reduced the charge and ensured Mendoza received a paltry 90-day sentence, and then saw that the sentence was suspended. To top it off, Descano dropped charges of brandishing a firearm, issuing a threat in writing, and gun possession by an unlawful alien. Despite all his vile crimes, Mendoza is now free, all thanks to Descano.
And that is just one of multiple examples. I’ll share three more today. Perhaps the most disgusting example regards El Salvadoran illegal alien and serial criminal Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortez, who already had a series of crimes on his record and corresponding releases in Fairfax County when Descano dropped murder charges against him. Thanks to Descano and his fellow woke officials, who deliberately ignored an ICE detainer request, Morales-Ortez went free. And within 24 hours of his release, the illegal alien murdered a Reston man.

Back in March, Fairfax Sheriff Stacey Kincaid was seeking to release El Salvadoran Israel Flores Ortiz, an 18-year-old who attended a public high school in the Virginia county and repeatedly groped multiple girls throughout the school year. Descano's office was quick to agree to release Ortiz, but a judge fortunately intervened. Ortiz has since received a conviction for nine counts of assault.
As my final example, also from earlier this year, surveillance footage captured Sierra Leone national Abdul Jalloh stabbing Stephanie Minter to death at a bus stop in Fairfax County. Not only did Gov. Spanberger defy an ICE detainer request for Jalloh, but it transpired that Descano had previously dropped most of the 40 charges on Jalloh’s record in the county, including charges stemming from rape, stabbings, and assaults. Descano protected Jalloh from justice dozens of times until the illegal alien's violence turned deadly.
I applaud the DOJ for investigating Descano, and hope he will finally face the justice he is so eager to deflect from illegal alien criminals.
