As GOP Turncoats Vote for Haitians’ Protected Status, DHS Employees Go Without Pay

As ten Republicans and an independent in the House of Representatives voted and lobbied to grant hundreds of thousands of Haitians de facto asylum this week, countless Department of Homeland Security employees went yet another week without pay. Democrats are not the only ones punishing American citizens and rewarding criminal foreigners.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) convinced almost a dozen gullible House Republicans to vote for her resolution to grant temporary protected status or a form of lengthy asylum to Haitian migrants. Pressley's ridiculous claim was that 20% of U.S. healthcare workers are Haitian, and multiple GOP turncoats began promptly to express their horror at the prospect of Americans losing such vital care. In actuality, Haitians represent less than 1% of the U.S. healthcare workforce.

The GOP congressmen who voted for Pressley's awful resolution were Rep. Don Bacon (R-Nebr.), Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.), Rep. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.), Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.), Rep. Michael R. Turner (R-Ohio), Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio), Rep. Richard McCormick (R-Ga.), and Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.). Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-Calif.), who caucuses with Republicans, also voted for the resolution. These Republicans were so busy preserving American jobs for foreigners and trying to grant citizens of one of the five most crime-plagued countries in the world temporary protected status (TPS) that they overlooked all the DHS employees unable to make ends meet.

Speaking of which, Coast Guard civilian employee Chelsea discussed the hardships of going nearly two months without a paycheck. “I've been at work without pay since mid-February, so about seven weeks now that I've gone without being paid,” she said. “I am a civilian with the United States Coast Guard. I went a similar amount of time [without pay] this past fall, during the first government shutdown of the fiscal year. And it's just a significant stressor on my family, and I have picked up side jobs, like walking dogs. I've called creditors to defer payments on my student loans and my vehicle.” You can watch her comments below.

As of the end of March, there had been at least two (Democrat-induced) DHS shutdowns in the past six months, and three funding lapses within the current Congress, according to TIME. Therefore, DHS employees have been regularly missing paychecks for half a year now. Just ponder how difficult that is for people who have bills to pay and families to support. Donald Trump signed an emergency order to pay Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees, and frontline Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents have separate funding through the One Big Beautiful Bill. But a significant number of civilian employees at Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other DHS subsidiaries like the Coast Guard have gone weeks without pay, and could end up going several months without pay.

There was a report that DHS employees would receive back pay as of this past Thursday, but since DHS posted the above video from Chealsea on Saturday and indicated DHS employees are still unpaid, it appears that report was not accurate.

And yet DHS cannot afford to let its employees stay home. Chelsea works for the Coast Guard, and the Coast Guard just seized and offloaded enough cocaine to kill 1.4 million Americans had it reached our shores. Every single day, DHS has new reports of the illegal alien murderers, rapists, assaulters, thieves, drunk drivers, drug traffickers, gang members, terrorists, pedophiles, and domestic abusers its officers arrested. FEMA continues to respond to multiple natural disasters around the nation. Employees of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services can hardly stay home for months on end. The Transportation Security Administration has to show up to work every day.

Instead of resharing fake sob stories about Haitian aliens and obsessing over legislation to help foreigners, the GOP turncoats should be focused on getting DHS employees their long-overdue funding.
