The rumor is that President Donald Trump is making a deal that would include endorsing RINO Sen. John Cornyn and pressuring Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, one of the most hardcore and effective members of the Republican Party, out of the Texas Senate race. This would be a mistake on many levels, but I’m going to list just three reasons here why MAGA cannot trust Cornyn — or, for that matter, his RINO allies.
First, we cannot forget that Cornyn sneered at the first Trump administration’s border wall project, later boasting in 2020 that he had privately opposed the use of national security funds for the wall, according to The National Pulse.
After the Supreme Court ruled against the first attempt by the Trump administration to terminate DACA in 2020, Cornyn celebrated by taking to the Senate floor and saying, “DACA recipients must have a permanent legislative solution. They deserve nothing less. These young men and women have done nothing wrong.”
He continued by pushing amnesty for DACA illegals, declaring, “I believe the Supreme Court has thrust upon us a unique moment and an opportunity. We need to take action and pass legislation that will unequivocally allow these young men and women to stay in the only home, in the only country, they’ve known.”
Texas is a border state, so it’s especially important that we trade out a senator who is unreliable on border policies for one who is consistently hardline, like Paxton. If there is one thing we learned from the first Trump administration, it is that we simply cannot afford to have people in important positions within the Republican Party who are not actually loyal to their constituents and the MAGA agenda.

The second reason to distrust Cornyn is much more recent, dating to the current Trump administration:

And finally, last but definitely not least, do not forget how Cornyn falsely and treacherously asserted that Donald Trump could potentially be indicted for inciting insurrection after the events of Jan. 6, 2021. “Theoretically, the president, once he leaves office, could be charged with incitement to insurrection,” Cornyn told reporters at the time.
Cornyn cited the ultimately debunked claim that protesters had caused the death of a U.S. Capitol Police officer. He also, despite the fact that Trump had explicitly called for peace that day, lectured, “In this case, I think the president's language was reckless. I think he miscalculated, assuming he calculated at all, about what the impact of a mob would be. Mobs don't act like rational people.”
In conclusion, having said all of that, I do think that it is unfair of Trump to demand that he decide who Texas voters can vote for, instead of allowing the runoff to continue as planned. Obviously, it is his right to endorse whomever he wishes to support, but he should not demand that whomever he does not endorse immediately drop out of the race.
