High School Promotes Hijabs to U.S. Girls, Hides Islam’s Violent Misogyny

A New York high school encouraged non-Muslim girls to try wearing hijabs to “dispel misconceptions.” But the event seems rather aimed to reinforce misconceptions, since it is obvious the girls were not informed about the violent misogyny inherent in and praised by Islam.

Domestic abuse, rape, bigamy, sex slavery, child brides, and honor killings are all allowed or endorsed by Islamic "sacred" texts, and the most minimal honest study of Islam makes it painfully obvious that females are always considered inferior and subject to men. For all these reasons, Islam is not compatible with the Judeo-Christian Western ethic. Yet Western leftists continue to lie to young people about Islam, particularly young women.

The hijab in both the Quran and Hadith is a symbol of "modesty," symbolizing a woman's obedience to Allah and to the men in her life. It is important to note, however, that in Islamic sacred texts the implication is repeatedly that if a woman is not dressed by the standards of strict Islamic "modesty," she can be considered fair game for lustful men; that is partly why so many Western women suffer rape at the hands of Muslim migrants.

In other words, the hijab is partly a physical symbol of how the Muslim religion allows and even encourages abuse and rape of those women who do not submit to sharia to the fullest extent (read more on JihadWatch). In this way, it is strikingly different from the symbolism of modest attire as understand in traditional Catholic, Mormon, Jewish, and other religions.

Because Islam teaches that men are superior to women, it encourages men to "discipline" women as parents used to do to children. This includes explicit domestic abuse. Quran 4:34, for instance, reads, "Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because Allah has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them." In the hadith Sahih Muslim 2127, Aisha — the girl the 50-year-old Muhammad married when she was six — mentions how Muhammad struck her and called it just.

Speaking of Aisha, there is technically no minimum age requirement for a female to be married in Islam, and some Muslims to this day take child brides as young as Aisha was. In fact, my colleague Robert Spencer explains that Ayatollah Khomenei, founder of the current Islamic regime massacring protestors in Iran, took a ten-year-old girl to be his wife when in his late 20s and urged others to follow his example. Muslims are also allowed by the Quran to have more than one wife (e.g., 4:3).

You will have noticed by now that Islam certainly does not define rape the way Judeo-Christian societies do. Firstly, Muslim women are not allowed to refuse the sexual advances of the men in their lives, which institutionalizes rape. Islamic texts go even further than that, however, as multiple verses (e.g., Quran 4:3, 4:24, 23:1-6) endorse sexual intercourse with "captives of the right hand," which means captives of war or slaves. Naturally, the sex slave is not considered as having any choice in this relationship. Indeed, some Muslims will even use rape as a conversion tool, claiming after the crime that the victims have to be placed in their custody because the victims are now Muslim.

Finally, Islam also allows honor killings. Quran 18:80-81 quotes a man's justification for killing a youth, "And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief. So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy." Girls and women who try to Westernize their lives are not infrequently murdered by family members in honor killings, and Muslims commit over 90% of honor killings worldwide.

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Gaza, Syria, Nigeria, and other areas and nations that are majority Muslim — or even that only have a large minority of Muslims — are miserable dictatorships. Women in those countries can suffer everything from educational and career restrictions to constant violence, abuse, harassment, and repression. The hijab is not a symbol of respect and honor, it is a symbol of sexual exploitation and oppression.
