According to research that deserves far more scrutiny than it’s received thus far for what should be obvious reasons, an astonishing percentage of American steers (the term for castrated male cattle) are actually seen, in clinical studies, to produce milk from their teats.
They somehow manage this achievement despite, obviously, not having any calves to nurse and thus no biological justification to produce said milk, if that’s what it can be called.

Then, he asked me whether I knew that male cattle were lactating at the time of slaughter.
No. I did not.

I love a good conspiracy theory, but I also raise cattle, and this sounded completely absurd. A steer is a castrated male bovine. A steer does not get pregnant. A steer does not have a calf. A steer does not produce milk…
Unfortunately, much like many of the “conspiracy theories” that abounded during COVID regarding what havoc the so-called vaccines wreaked on their recipients, the lactating steers thing turns out to be absolutely true, at least according to some studies as well as anecdotal accounts from ranchers nationwide.

The 20% figure cited above comes from the study “Outcomes of Unintended Consequences: Frequency of Lactation and Intact Males and Their Impact in Finished Cattle,” in which analysts examined over 20,000 cows, bulls (intact males), and steers (castrated males) to determine whether they lactated.

Accumulation of excess fat may cause fat cells to produce estrogens (Mattson & Olsson, 2007), potentially initiating lactation without pregnancy (galactorrhea). Intact males divert more energy to muscle production and finish slower, due to endogenous testosterone (Arthaud et al., 1977)…
Cattle (n = 20,481) were audited during harvest, originating from 33 feedlots. All cattle were assessed for lactation. All steers were manually palpated to detect testicles…
29.68% of cattle (n = 6,078) were identified as lactating. Dairy-cross heifers were lactating at the greatest (P < 0.01) frequency (55.81%), followed by native heifers (28.77%), dairy-cross-steers (19.66%), and native steers (14.55%).
I’m open to being corrected, of course, but I would have a hard time buying that any cattle with male chromosomes, especially ones with their testicles intact, would have been found lactating in large numbers a mere hundred years ago before the industrialization of agriculture, when ranchers moved — often out of economic necessity rather than a personal desire — out of the pasture and into pens, where they are injected with all manner of drugs, including massive doses of antibiotics and, crucially for this discussion, growth hormone to maximize their growth rate and ultimately fetch a higher fee from the butcher.
Over 90% of conventional American cattle, in fact, receive artificial growth hormone, the most common being the product called REVALOR-G from Merck Animal Health, implants containing trenbolone acetate and estradiol that the manufacturer promises pack on an extra 23 pounds by the time they’re ready for slaughter.
Incidentally, exogenous estrogen is also dispensed to male human trannies in order to induce lactation, a disturbing fetish which they often harbor.

Other factors for the steer lactation epidemic likely include, as noted above, the unnatural, estrogenic increased fat deposits found in male cattle (caused by their sedentary lifestyle and growth hormones) as well as the soy-heavy feed the cattle receive.
