Chronicling the ongoing intersectional struggle to liberate women — inclusively defined as the legacy kind and the transgender kind — from the Patriarchy™, one microaggression at a time.
For those unfamiliar with the goings-on at the WNBA, the star of the league who draws more eyes by far than any other single player, a straight white woman called Caitlin Clark, is routinely battered on the court by mostly black opponents.

WNBA player Alyssa Thomas recently throat-punched Clark while she lay on the ground, which drew a paltry one-game suspension.

No foul was called during the game as Thomas was caught on camera jamming her fist into Clark's throat.

Everyone understands the racial element at play, but most hesitate to notice it in public, much less complain about it, due to political correctness.

As the abuse becomes more common and flagrant, however, the elephant in the room becomes harder to ignore.

The debate widened when former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason suggested Clark should consider playing in Europe if the WNBA would not protect her. [Former ESPN commentator Jemele] Hill pushed back on X, writing: “So is he implying that she should receive special treatment because she’s straight and white?”
Burack responded by rejecting Hill’s framing and arguing that the issue was not special treatment, but basic player protection.
“No, you ghoul,” Burack wrote. “He’s saying she shouldn’t play in a league that allows players to punch her in that throat absent a foul because she’s straight and white.”
Hill then objected to Burack’s tone and accused critics of being selective about when race is discussed.
“First of all, let’s not name call because you and I both know you would never have this same type of bravado if you saw me in public,” Hill wrote. “You’d put your head down and keep it moving.”
She added: “Secondly, y’all the ones always hollering and crying about race being brought up too much … but surprise, surprise, this isn’t the case now.”

Stephanie White, Clark’s own coach, recently came out to condemn critics of rampant assaults on her own player, accusing them of all the usual lib things: “toxicity, racism, homophobia, straight-out nonsense.”

Why hasn't her dumbass been fired by the Fever? pic.twitter.com/BwBt7EoFq9

WNBA fans might have forgotten what leadership sounds like.
There have been plenty of empty, unfeeling statements as the league has grown, and players have borne the ugliest costs of its mainstream attention.
Fever coach Stephanie White’s remarks were a reminder.
White opened her news conference Wednesday by addressing the harassment Mercury star Alyssa Thomas has received since her flagrant foul on Caitlin Clark.
White already had called the play ‘‘egregious.’’ The league later upgraded the foul to a Flagrant 2 and suspended Thomas for one game. Thomas called the contact accidental.
Since then, Thomas said she and her family have received death threats, that she has been targeted with racial slurs and that she and her teammates have been ‘‘painted as thugs.’’…
Speaking before the Fever’s practice Wednesday, White condemned it.
‘‘Before we start with questions, I just want to address what’s going on with [Thomas],’’ White said. ‘‘First and foremost, it’s absolutely unacceptable. As a league as a whole, there’s been so much more toxicity, racism, homophobia, straight-out nonsense. Hate nonsense*. It is absolutely unacceptable.
‘‘Most of this [is] coming from the online community. Most of this, in my heart of hearts, I believe [is] not coming from WNBA fans, Indiana Fever fans. I believe this is people who are using our league, using our players, to further divisive agendas. It’s not acceptable.’’
*”Hate nonsense!” She was a click of her heels away from turning it explicitly partisan and outright condemning Trump supporters; you could practically hear “MAGA” forming on the tip of her tongue, but she held it because, one can only presume, the front office has informed her that a high proportion of the fan base in Indianapolis is probably in that demographic and that turning the whole thing into a culture war against Deplorables probably wouldn’t be great for business.
