‘Straights of Hormuz’
No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby. —H.L. Mencken
In a bit of Bruno-tier trolling*, a woman was asked whether she agrees that it’s homophobic to focus on the “straights” of Hormuz and leave the gays of Hormuz behind.
She concurs.
“Historically, you know, gays have always been very discriminated against… even in war. It just takes more reform in government, obviously, and then also educating society.“

*For the uninitiated, Bruno is Sacha Baron Cohen’s most excellent homosexual Austrian fashion reporter character who exposed, among other things, the total vapidity of the fashion industry and its phony concerns for humanitarian issues.
Even if you didn’t know what the Strait of Hormuz is — and, let’s face it, with the state of public education, that’s probably 90% of the American population, even with it in the news constantly — how could you not catch some apparent miscommunication here? The U.S. military is launching an operation in Iran to save the straight people of a region called Hormuz and leave the gay ones to die? Is that what this lady thinks is happening? What would they be saving the straight people from — the mullahs who execute homosexuals?
Make it make sense, please!
Of course, what’s really going on is much simpler: this lady is a moron, but the one thing that she understands is that she’s supposed to virtue-signal on behalf of the rainbow people as a default position.
So whatever anyone says in defense of them, she automatically agrees with.
It’s hard-wired into them to the point of reflex.
People — a few, most agree in principle — sometimes get upset about the whole “repeal the 19th Amendment” talk, which I have promulgated, on account of it being dismissive of the large swathes of female voters who can be counted on to make an informed decision.

Fine.
But can we do a basic geography quiz or something at the door before handing out paper ballots?
Anything at all to roll back the “universal suffrage” thing, which was very evidently a massive mistake.
Were the poll literacy tests really such an awful imposition?
Yeah, obviously, their intended effect was to disenfranchise a particular ethnic group, and that was wrong, or so the story goes. (I don’t actually know how true that is, but I’ll take it at face value.)
But this current Democracy™ thing, where everyone’s vote counts equally, doesn’t appear to be optimal.
Maybe we should reconsider the merits of the “all animals are equal but some are more equal than others” Animal Farm mantra, originally intended as satire.
